Welcome to Mark Twain Hotel

The Mark Twain Hotel, located at 205 N 9th St in the heart of downtown St. Louis, stands as a historic refuge for those in transition and visitors seeking affordability near key landmarks like the Gateway Arch and Busch Stadium. With a modest 3.1 rating, it serves a unique role in the local hospitality landscape—an option grounded more in practicality than luxury.

Guests appreciate the hotel’s emphasis on cleanliness and respect, both from staff and residents—a sentiment echoed across reviews. This is not a place for indulgence but a sober sanctuary where security and professionalism prevail. Accessibility and inclusivity are notable; the hotel caters especially to individuals with disabilities and those navigating immediate housing needs, reflecting a community-minded approach that aligns with its long-standing presence in downtown St. Louis for over 100 years.

The rooms are straightforward yet comfortable, air-conditioned with reliable Wi-Fi and parking options, though travelers should note the absence of amenities like a pool, restaurant, or fitness center. The lack of pet accommodations and airport shuttle further underscore its geared focus toward transient residents and budget-conscious visitors rather than vacationers seeking full-service experience.

Despite these limitations, the Mark Twain Hotel’s charm lies in its connection to the city’s rich history and urban pulse. Its proximity to cultural hubs and vibrant sports venues invites guests to immerse themselves in St. Louis life. The sense of safety and the professionalism of the staff provide reassurance in an often unpredictable downtown environment.

Ultimately, the Mark Twain Hotel excels as a practical, cost-effective stopover or temporary home that meets essential needs with dignity and respect. It is a reminder that not all hotels must dazzle—sometimes, simply providing shelter, security, and a foothold in the city’s heart is enough.

It's a good place to be while you're in transition between places. just be respectful to the staff while you're there. The most important is to keep yourself and you're room clean. The stores and restaurants is in walking distance so you save on gas. Don't have to worry about paying extra bills so you can save some money while you're there. It's a good place to be if you're in a tough spot until you're situation gets better. The laundry room is in the building so you can wash clothes. snack machines in the lobby if you need something to snack on late at night. The police department is next door and the metro link is less then a block. It's a perfect short term or long term spot. There is security on sight so if you need assistance the staff and security can help.

It's more of a transient Hotel, usefull for people with disabilities and collecting Ssi. It's open for people who need immediate housing. They do not take felons, I've had no issues living here, I've been here for about a year.

I've recently been staying at hotel. Must say staff and security guards are excellent. professional and helpful. Rooms are clean and your room is comfortable and safe. It's extremely affordable and do not assume, I love it here and part of history it's been in downtown St.louis now for 100 years.
